Online Education and EdTech Platforms: Legal Duties Towards Students and Parents

    Published on:

EdTech boom ne learning ko phone screen tak le aaya, lekin saath me kuch legal responsibilities bhi lekar aaya. Online education platforms sirf “apps” nahi; unpe consumer protection, data protection, advertising norms, and sometimes education-specific regulations apply hote hain.

    Basic duties:
    – Course content accurately describe karna (no wild “guaranteed job” type false promises),
    – Clear pricing, refund, cancellation policy display karna,
    – Minors ko target karte waqt parents ke consent and transparency maintain karna,
    – Recorded classes, live sessions me student data, images, voice ko responsibly handle karna.

Aggressive sales calls, pressure tactics, forced loan tie-ups – in sab pe regulators aur consumer courts ne negative view liya hai. Agar platform exam prep ya certification promise kare, to affiliation/accreditation details aur success rate claims truthful hone chahiye.

Parents/students ke paas bhi rights hain – misleading ads, service deficiency, or unfair terms ke against complaint ya legal action ka option. Online ho ya offline, education business still public trust pe chalta hai. Law slowly catch-up kar raha hai, lekin expectations clear ho chuki hain.
