Fixed-term contracts ek growing trend hain: 6 months, 1 year, 2 years ke agreement jisme clearly likha hota hai ki employment automatically end ho jayegi specified date pe, unless renewed. Employers ko flexibility milti hai; employees ke liye mix bag hai.
Pros:
– Often better pay than pure temporary roles,
– Clear expectation of duration,
– Sometimes pro-rated benefits (leave, bonus) mil jate hain depending on law/policy.
Cons:
– Job security limited; renewal employer ke mood/business pe depend,
– Long-term career planning tough,
– Restructuring ke time first cut fixed-term hi hote hain.
Law usually kehta hai ki fixed-term employees ko basic labour protections milte hain – working conditions, safety, non-discrimination, sometimes social security. But termination at end of term often “non-renewal” ke naam pe easily justify ho jata hai.
Contract sign karne se pehle notice clauses, early termination rights, benefits, and conversion possibility (to permanent) clearly padhna chahiye. Short-term goals ke liye yeh contracts useful ho sakte hain, but as a permanent comfort zone, hamesha safe nahi.
